Hey guys!

I just want to let you musicians know about www.VideoGameJam.com!  It's a site that has been around for a while, and on it you can search for a ton of video game tabs based on games from various consoles, old and new.

Let me know what you think about the site, I've been using it for years now!

Are you making $$ off your music online?

July 21st, 2011 + 3:07 PM  ·  UnitedEntity

Hey guys,

I know this is not a song, I am kind of a new user here so excuse me if this is the wrong board for this kind of discussion.

As an unsigned musician I used to find myself scratching my head all the time and wondering how to make money off of my music and monetize my work on the internet. A little over a month ago I found out about SocialMusic.com and was wondering if anybody else was using this platform? I am currently making a few hundred bucks every few weeks off of my fans that enjoy my music and wish to support what I am doing.

I have found a few resources but I was wondering what you all do to monetize your music content online successfully? It would be great to hear some success stories and maybe get a jump start with some tips. I can share strategy and information on how I am banking with Social Music if you guys wish.

Here are the different platforms that I am aware of:

iTunes:
Cons: Requires users to pay for music which they may not be willing to do.  Certainly not start up artists.

CDbaby.com
Cons: The amount of musicians active on this website is extremely large, so that CD you are selling for $6 may take a while to get noticed.

Songstall.com
Cons: Not the easiest platform to use, company takes a % off of the total song/album sale.

What do you guys think?

Best way to monetize your music online?

July 20th, 2011 + 3:07 PM  ·  UnitedEntity

Hey guys,

As an unsigned musician I find myself scratching my head all the time and wondering how to make money off of my music and monetize my work online. I have found a few resources but I was wondering what you all do to monetize your music content online? It would be great to hear some success stories and maybe get a jump start with some tips.

Here are the different platforms that I am aware of:

iTunes:
Pros: Has a lot of the bigger brands and is a well known name.
Cons: Requires users to pay for music which they may not be willing to do.  Certainly not start up artists.

Pages.Socialmusic.com:
Pros: Provides artists with a way to monetize their music without asking users or fans to spend any money or do anything uncomfortable. Fans view a short series of ads then proceed to music. Artists are paid each time one of their fans does so.
Cons: Does not have quite as big a name as the others yet.

CDbaby.com
Pros:  A simple way for unsigned artists and small labels to begin getting serious profiting off of their work.
Cons: The amount of musicians active on this website is extremely large, so that CD you are selling for $6 may take a while to get noticed.

Songstall.com
Pros: An easy to use on line music shop which allows independent artists to sell their music to their fans and friends.
Cons: Not the easiest platform to use, company takes a % off of the total song/album sale.

Wall stands are the greatest for Guitars/Bass.  You can keep your floor space open and your guitars are right there in front of your face all the time

Another tip:  PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!   Watching TV?  Practice some scales and keep your hands busy!

Good bass for a beginner?

July 18th, 2011 + 7:07 PM  ·  UnitedEntity

Hey guys,

I am currently looking to get a new bass but I am unsure of what route to go.  I am really into the Schecter basses that I have seen, but I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for something else?

Budget is around $200-$300.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
